Would you like to learn about Food safety and Quality - Online?

Safety and professional knowledge in food handling are essential in all food production and service settings. This course is intended for anyone who works, or plans to work, in food processing and handling, such as in kitchens, restaurants, food service, or other roles involving food preparation.

Due to positive feedback, we are once again offering this course as an online (distance learning) programme.

The course runs from 21 September to 2 November 2026. Classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 17:00–19:00. Participants attend online from their own location. Recordings will be available for those who are unable to attend live sessions.

Course topics:

  • Food microbiology.
  • Internal control, HACCP/GAMES.
  • Preparation of menus, product knowledge and food categories.
  • Increasing healthiness of meals and prepared food.
  • Shelf life, sensory assessment, product knowledge.
  • Allergies and intolerances.
  • Cleaning and disinfection.

The course is taught in accordance with the curriculum of the Education and Training Service Centre (Fræðslumiðstöð atvinnulífsins).

Grants for tuition fees:
Participants may apply for grants from their trade union education funds to cover tuition fees. Please contact your trade union for further information.

The course is free of charge for members of the affiliated unions and partner funds of Starfsmennt. Registration is available on the Starfsmennt website.
