Quailifications - Icelandic


A1-1 

This course is suitable for beginners and those who want to improve their basic Icelandic skills. After the course, you will be able to deal with simple situations in Icelandic. 

For example, when you: 

- say hello and goodbye 

- talk briefly about yourself 

- ask others their name, where they live and where they are from 

- ask others what languages they speak 

More vocabulary will be added quickly, e.g. social security number, numbers, dates, days and months. You will also be learning the words for body parts. 

You will be able to engage in simple conversations. You will learn to state your phone number and address and ask others to do the same. You will also learn how to talk about your family and how to ask about other people's families. You will be able to talk about your home, what kind of housing you live in and ask others about the same. 

You will learn the Icelandic alphabet with an emphasis on special Icelandic letters, diphthongs and pronunciation. Accents in Icelandic language pronunciation will also be discussed.  

You will learn grammar step by step, while simultaneously increasing your skills in the language. 

You will be introduced to the possibilities of online language practicing, websites and apps and how you can use a smartphone to learn Icelandic. 

 

A1-2 

This course is intended for those who have completed Icelandic A1-1 or a similar basic course. 

During the course you will improve your ability to use Icelandic in everyday situations. 

For example, when you: 

- go to a store 

- visit a restaurant or cafe 

- talk to your friends 

- visit the doctor or the hospital 

We will be talking about leisure time and hobbies, and you will be practicing talking about things you do in your free time. You will learn how to discuss your likes and dislikes.  

You will be learning to talk about things you have experienced, where and when. You will also be learning how to talk about what you plan to do later. 

We will be studying vocabulary related to feelings, and we will also be learning about the body. 

The biggest emphasis will be on speaking and listening, but you will also be learning how to write simple sentences, fill in forms and write short messages. 

There will be an emphasis on speaking and practicing Icelandic pronunciation. You will learn more about the pronunciation of diphthongs, double consonants and more.

You will be learning grammar step by step, while simultaneously increasing your skills in the language. 

In this course we will be using smartphones, the internet and various apps to increase the diversity of the course. 

 

A2-1 

This course is intended for those who have completed Icelandic A1-2 or a similar course. 

During the course, you will improve your ability to use Icelandic in conversations and in writing. 

For example, when you: 

- talk about yourself, hobbies, family etc. 

- have a conversation about things related to work and health 

- talk on the phone about simple things 

- communicate on simple things via e-mail 

There will be an emphasis on developing your conversational skills even further. At the same time, an increased emphasis will be on writing simple texts and searching for information in written texts and news. You will learn to follow simple instructions, e.g. directions and instructions regarding work. 

We will be focusing on helping you develop skills to deal with daily tasks and communication in Icelandic. 

You will be learning grammar step by step, while simultaneously increasing your skills in the language. 

  

A2-2 

This course is intended for those who have completed Icelandic A2-1 or a similar course. 

During the course, you will improve your ability to use Icelandic in conversation and in writing.   

For example, when you: 

- follow the news, both written and read out loud 

- watch or listen to programs about current affairs 

- follow instructions, both verbal and written 

- talk about events in the past tense and future tense 

When you get to this point in your Icelandic studies, the emphasis is on increased vocabulary and grammar also becomes a bigger part of the process. We will continue to work with increased conversation skills and writing simple texts. Slowly but surely, you will acquire the skills to deal with more complex daily situations using Icelandic.
