Umönnunarsmiðja - Care Work Fundamentals

Do you want to work in social or health care but do not have sufficient skills in Icelandic?
This course is part 1 of 2.
The second part starts 19 February.

For whom:
The programme is intended for individuals who wish to work in social or health care, such as in residential homes, home services, or in care and support for people who are sick or disabled.

Goals:

• Empower participants in using Icelandic with emphasis on care work
• Increase participant‘s ability to cope with a job in the care sector
• Various workshops focusing on practical learning
• On-the-job training

Teaching methods:
Emphasis is placed on diverse and practical teaching methods.

Locations:
The programme is taught at MSS and at various workplaces.

Assessment:
Assessment is based on project work and active participation.

Duration and schedule:
Total: 168 hours
The programme runs from 2 September to 14 October 2026.
Classes are held on weekdays from 13:00 – 15:45.
The programme is taught according to the curriculum of the National Education Centre.
The programme is supported by the Directorate of Labour.
